My_Way printer

A portable photo printer with Bluetooth capability

Olivetti My_Way portable printer
During my Internship at IDEO London I joined the Olivetti My_Way Design team. We worked on detail solutions and the interface lay-out. I'm proud to see one of my contributions (the retractable handle) inbedded in the final product.

The portable printer is designed to be read in a linear fashion, much like a book, the printer communicates with the user in a step-by-step process of interactions, symbols and indications. The clean-lined form is maintained through a retractable handle and push-open doors. Monochromatic color is highlighted by the counterpoint of a matte exterior and glossy interior surface.

How do you like your milk?

an exploraion around the perception of milk

image 12345
‘How do you like your milk?’ was part of EAT ME project, focusing on personal dairy packaging. Rather than immediately designing packaging I focused on the experiences around dairy product and to narrow it down, milk.
I gathered my information by interviewing people from all parts of the world and collected videos, ads and promotion materials. As it turned everyone had there own way of drinking milk or their own unique childhood memories. I took out the most inspiring stories and made concept milk bottle caps for each one of them.

The final presentation showed the prototypes, the interview booklet, and a 2 minute videopresentation of milkperception and use in media, film and propaganda.

Banquet

Mind you manners

Can you handle me? - wineglass
Can you handle me? - wineglass
The brief was to design for and around the experience of attending a banquet.
The projects ‘Can you handle me?’, ‘Drunk me...’,and ‘Elbows, elbows...’ reflect and help you understand table etiquettes and manners. The products give you hints, physically and socially, and find a comfortable balance between bourgeoisie and everyday life.

‘Can you handle me?’
A wineglass is to be held at the stem, to prevent any temperature changes of the wine, but the design of an average wineglass does not give you any clues towards this etiquette. By using the archetype of a tea-cup handle in the stem, the wineglass adapts the connotation, creating more grip and a surprising balance.
The project was shortlisted for the Garrards jewellery, and luxury items competitions

‘Drunk me...’
Asking for more wine is very inappropriate according to an upper-class etiquette, it is up to the waiters attention to refill your glass. To help you and the waiter, the wineglass tilts over when the glass is empty, ‘begging’ for more. The final prototype and testing model was made through computer modeling and FDM Rapid prototyping.

‘Elbows, elbows, if you’re able keep your elbows of the table....’

By molding armrests in two directions, active alongside the plate and resting in front of the body, an intermediate (less painfull) solution is created. The leather table extension provides a more comfortable solution for an uncomfortable etiquette.

one day project - fastfood packaging

The papercup, a one day project on fast-food packaging (working with the randomly given words; soup and paper)
The project aims to create a new instant soup packaging, using a Constantine principle. The paper rings can be detracted from a ‘flat-pack’ into an one-time-use cup. The paperfibres expand when in contact with hot water, sealing all the gaps between the individual rings, making the cup leak proof.

In 2007 I worked at Scope Design Strategy in Amersfoort (NL).
During my time at the studio I worked in several projects, from bikes to breakfast sets and medical products.

Due to confidentiality I can only show fragmented images.

The Flight

inspired by 100 years of aviation

Back to the essence of flight...the wing
Back to the essence of flight...the wing
Back to the main inspiration of aviation, nature’s flying machines... Analysing wings, their construction, layering, properties... This provided the inspiration to explore old and new pleating techniques. Resulting in a constructive fold, which gives strength to a flat surface by pleating in two directions. This technique is implemented in an expandable bag, created from one sheet material.
